The Little Styx River Cabins reflect some of the history of the rugged timbered ranges, as they were the original quarters for the old Point Lookout timber mill. Known respectively as The Hilton and Possum Villa, they’re situated adjacent to the World Heritage listed New England National Park.

The bush cabins offer rustic accommodation in the heart of New England’s adventure wilderness. Nestled beside the hurrying headwaters of the Little Styx River, they’re an ideal base from which to fish, 4WD or walk the remote gorges and forests. Each can sleep up to 12 guests. Hot showers, flushing toilets and wood heating provide for a comfortable and relaxing camping style stay in some of Australia’s most picturesque high country.

It is an ideal location for those who want to escape from it all and enjoy the tranquillity of the bush. Guests can spend their days fly-fishing for the elusive rainbow trout in the clear mountain streams or bushwalking in 55,000ha of remote wilderness. You won’t find many bush cabins that make such perfect fly-fishing accommodation, with plenty of walking trails and private trout streams at your disposal.

Guided fly-fishing

If you’ve been looking for unique fly-fishing trips in Australia, you can’t go past Moffat Falls. Our guests get to fish for rainbow trout in private streams that are inaccessible to the general public. Let our experienced guides take you out for the day. Trips are available for novices right through to experienced fly fishers. All equipment is provided. The day caters for all levels of experience. It consists of early morning and late afternoon stream and river fishing. The middle of the day covers fishing and casting techniques.

Only guests on a guided tour may fish the Moffat Falls streams. This streams are strictly fly-fishing only and catch and release. They are situated adjacent to New England National Park and run over spectacular waterfalls and mountain scenery. It is an ideal location for those who want to escape from it all and spend their days fly-fishing for the elusive rainbow trout. The price (incl-GST) is inclusive of all equipment.

More Information

If you like camping, you will love the cabins. They’re for campers, but with all the extras – a roof over your head, a hot shower, a warm fire and a comfy bed. As such, guests are advised to bring all their camping gear, including:

  • adequate warm clothing and wet weather gear (at nearly 5,000 feet above sea level, the cabins can be subject to all the variances of mountain weather)
  • gas lamps or torches for lighting (please do not use candles as they are a potential fire hazard)
  • gas burner (for quick cooking)
  • fire starters (to light the BBQ and heater)
  • axe for chopping fire-wood, which is provided
  • crockery and cutlery
  • towels and tea towels
  • toilet paper
  • sleeping bags and pillows
  • esky (for the summer months)
